PLATTEN TAKES MAIDEN 2022 LGM VICTORY!
Race Details: 9th – 10th April ’22 | Larkhall | Round 1
With the national season opening, the first round of the LGM series started in fantastic style at the Larkhall circuit. Both Harry and Sam have been extremely fast in testing and the BMR team expected a great result for this weekend. Platten, being the current LGM champion was determined to retain his title and showed the rest of the UK, that he meant business!
With testing going exactly how BMR had planned, Saturdays official timed practice showed Harry in his accustomed position…Pole, with team mate Sam in 2nd place. This is the first time this year that these two team mates have been on track together and have shown exactly what the team can do!
Sunday started with an old style of quali… the Super Pole, essential a 1 lap shot out. Three drivers on track at any one time, each having an out lap, a fast lap, then an in lap. It made for some nail biting viewing and everyone was crowded around a live timing screen! Both Platten and Heading made had strong laps and secured 2nd and 3rd respectively!
Heat 1 – Finally, after three days of testing we finally got round to some racing. The boys were raring to go and as ever, didn’t disappoint! The lights went green and the BMR lads were determined to win. The top 4 battled throughout the 11 lap heat, pushing their competition as hard as they could. Harry settled for 2nd place and Sam missed out on 3rd by a miniscule 0.016 seconds. Not a bad start to the LGM National Series!
Heat 2 – The team had a few setup changes and were determined to improve on the previous heat. With the rolling start going green, Heading edged the start and took 2nd. Two laps in and Platten had regained his 2nd position. With the team mates now working together they were on a charge to catch the leader. Three laps later and the BMR train were ready to make a move for the lead. With some mega moves by the pair, Platten made the move for the lead. The top three battled lap after lap with the lead changing many times. On the penultimate lap Harry regains the lead, and defends the advances of the chasing pack behind. With 0.2 seconds separating the top three, Harry takes his first heat victory, with Sam taking 3rd!
Final – Team BMR lined up 2nd and 3rd for the TWENTY lap final. The lights went out and the start was as frantic as ever, Heading edging up to 2nd, then getting squeezed out and dropping to 5th! Patten, with his wealth of experience, kept his cool demeanour and kept on the tail of the leader. After 15 laps and never more than a couple of tenths off of the leader, Platten made his move for the lead, whilst Heading had fought his way back into the top three! With Platten expertly backing up his rival into his team mate, the ‘tide turned’ and Heading went on the attack, which left Platten with an easy final lap! Harry took a well deserved first win of the season by over half a second, with Sam in third place, narrowly missing out on the 2nd step of the podium!
An excellent weekend for Team BMR, Sam and the defending champion Harry. Roll on the British Champs!
